About Marayos

Mission

Implementing the rules of law, enforcing the peace & order to sustain the peacefulness of the community and involve the people to actively participate to achieve the goal for a better community.


Vision

In the year 2020, Barangay Marayos will be known as one of the fruit-bearing place in town that creates employment and income through the new agricultural method, providing health care services, social and economic services through facilities and assistance, strengthening the local governance to produce peaceful community that will lead to a better and progressive lives of its constituents.


History

It's name is derived from Mangyan Couples named “MARAY & AYOS” had lived in this place before it was settled by local migrants by the nearby towns.

After several years, there came a group of people Mangyan, then later another group of people Tagalog came and stayed.

For so many years, they don’t know how this place will be called until they remembered the Mangyan Couple. But they found it hard to pronounce their named so they agreed to make the name short “Marayos” after the name of mangyan couple Maray and Ayos. In the language of mangyan tribes, the word marayos, mean also as a cold (malamig). And also, Mangyan called Siganonon Tagalog people.

Year 1951 up to 1957 when Teniente Del Barrio Domingo Escalwas elected, Escalwas succeeded by Vicente Leal in 1958 to 1963. Santiago Marasigan became Barrio Captain in 1964 up to 1982 then his son Carlito Marasigan followed him in 1983 to 1991. Unfortunately Carlito Marasigan was assassinated and so the first councilor Vicente Leal took over up to 1992. Vicente Leal passed away and so the next in rank Elias Lalog succeeded in 1992 to 1993. But Elias Lalog did not last for so long. He died by natural death and it’s the chance to Corazon I. Lotayo to take over up to 1994. Enrico Caunceran won the barangay election of 1994 up to 2007. Lorenzo C. Leal won the barangay election of 2008 up to present and now sits as the incumbent Punong Barangay.

Marayos celebrates Fiesta every 4th and 5th day of May in honor of Mama Mary, its Patron Saint. Marayos has a total land area of 924.1387 hectares. It has a total taxable area of 550.0087 hectares. It was subdivided into 7sitios namely: Boulevard, Banaba. Balatikan, Centro, Duluhan 1, Upper and Duluhan 2. Marayos has a total population of 1,500 for the current year 2011 of which 762 are males and 738 are females. It has a total of 354 households. Rice, banana, coconut, vegetables, citrus and fruit trees are among the major crop products raised and cultivated of farmers.

Marayos has 2 rivers, the Macanlig River and the Pula River which serve as a natural boundaries with adjacent barangays. Creeks presents are balatikan creek, guip creek, and kawa-kawa creek. At the upstream of kawa-kawa creek is the kawa-kawa waterfalls. It has an approximate height of 30 feet.
